Over the past two years, trend predictions were filled with how the pandemic made people pause and take stock of what they want out of their lives. This led to a lot of soul-searching and speculation as people tried to figure out their place in the world. In 2023, we’re calling BS. Yes, some people had time to be introspective, but what most people found was messy and inconsistent. As we move into 2023, we see a lot of people who are conflicted—between prioritizing themselves vs. others and looking to the future vs. clinging to the past. What is interesting about this is the duality of values and behaviors. People are getting more comfortable with opposing beliefs, resulting in contradictory actions.
After surveying 750 Americans, studying online behaviors and combing through our proprietary data streams, we have identified five ways we’ll see consumers grapple with internal conflict this year.
